When it was announced last year that a 'Ghostbuster' reboot was in the works, all of the original film's fans were excited to hear that their favorite movie franchise was being given new life in the big screen. When a follow-up announcement was made that the title roles were going to have an all-female cast, the fanbase became split - some of the fans loved the feminist tone, while others hated it for changing the genders of the characters that they have come to know and love.

Whatever the general movie going census may be, it is actually a good thing to have women cast in titular roles of an action-comedy film - a genre that has been dominated by the male actor populace - to bring a change in perspective.

If director Paul Feig, who is currently helming the project, were to be asked, he probably would not be pleased with the backlash that the new direction the movie is taking. In an interview made with him by Bustle, Feig stated about the criticism of the reboot: "Look at the backlash to what I'm trying to do with Ghostbusters. It's bananas. What time is it? Oh right, it's 2015. Is this still going on? Really?"

As for the actresses, they are very excited about working with Feig and his vision for the Ghostbusters reboot. When Melissa McCarthy, one of the actresses cast in the titular roles, was asked what fans could expect from Feig's iteration of the cult classic, she said, "Absolutely. For sure. Yes because it's a female cast, but also because is going to put a really modern, current twist on it. It will be scary and have good action. He pulls from the classics but he's a very modern director. I truly believe they could not have picked a better director to launch that franchise."

'Ghostbusters' is slated to hit US theaters on July 22, 2016.
