HTC and major mobile carriers in the US are reportedly preparing to release the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop's official over-the-air update to HTC One M7. According to recent news, the update will come shortly after the Marshmallow software debuts to some phones later in September.
HTC One M7, both unlocked version and under carrier, is now bound for the Android Lollipop's 5.1.1 version. While most units currently run on Android 5.0, the original One M7 will receive the update in stages, which means some regions will get it on a different date and time.
Last August, a One M7 owner took Twitter to ask HTC's executive and known inside informant Mo Versi regarding the debut of Sense 6.0 to the device. Versi responded that HTC's own user interface will come alongside Marshmallow. This prompted rumors that the Taiwanese brand might be jumping straight to Android 6.0 Marshamallow, skipping 5.1.1.
However, tech experts believe this information coming from Versi does not automatically mean HTC is skipping the final Lollipop update.
Current software status of HTC One M7 are as follows:
Mobile Carrier |
Software Version |
Android 5.0.2 |
|
Android 5.0 |
|
Android 5.0 |
|
Android 5.0 |
Meanwhile, One M9 and One M8 handsets are also expected to be receiving the Lollipop update too. Most One M9 and One M8 units are currently running on Android 5.0 Lollipop software.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is expected to bring in improvements in user interface, device sharing and syncing, and security patches, among others.
