Supergirl on CBS debuts this fall with a cast led by Glee star Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El who was sent from the planet Krypton to escape its destruction and like her cousin Superman has been hiding her superhuman powers. Supergirl's human form is a bespectacled assistant at CatCo media.

As the series pilot has finished filming, IMDb released a cast list in anticipation of the launch of the new series. The cast reads like a super line up from big television hits. Zap2it has been following the casting revelations.

Challenging Benoist's Supergirl is Mentalist's Owain Yeoman as Vartox, who is originally in DC comics a friend of Superman from Valeron galaxy. TVLine revealed that in the TV version Vartox is an alien convict hiding in earth for 12 years. Vartox dislikes the sudden appearance of Supergirl and seeks her out in battle.

Dean Cain, the Superman of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, guest stars, along with Supergirl movie's Helen Slater.

True Blood's Mehcad Brooks plays Jimmy Olsen, and like his character in the Superman series is also a photographer in the Supergirl version. He appears as a mysterious photographer at CatCo.

Ally McBeal's Calista Flockhart reinvents herself as Cat Grant, the self-made media titan and founder of Catco media, Kara's boss. Grant started out as a reporter and built her media company into an empire.

Homeland's David Harewood is Hank Henshaw, a former CIA agent who runs the Department of Extra-Normal Operations charged with tracking off-word threats against Earth.

Grey Anatomy's Chyler Leigh is Dr. Alexandra Danvers, Kara's foster sister. Alex knew about Kara's powers since they were young and this knowledge has led to her "obsession" with science.

Broadway actress Laura Benanti essays the recurring character of Alura Zor-El, Kara's birth mother who sent her to earth and helps Kara finally transform into Supergirl.

Broadway actor Jeremy Jordan plays Winslow "Winn" Scott, the superstar IT whiz of CatCo who works with Kara.

Supergirl on CBS debuts this fall under the direction of Glen Winter and script by Flash and Arrow's Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler.
