Samsung has just announced that Galaxy S5 in now available to be updated with Android 5.0 Lollipop custom firmware.

According to Samsung's website, the update offers users several enhancements, security updates and bug fixes.

For Galaxy S5 owner using Verizon can avail the update now. Verizon was the first mobile carrier in the US to launch the update for a Samsung smartphone.

Along with Galaxy S5, other versions rolling out for Lollipop update include Samsung Galaxy S4 in Poland and Galaxy Note 3 in Russia. Anything has not been confirmed yet as to where it will be available in the US.

Google first introduced the new Lollipop update over the summer, which was deemed the biggest Android update ever.

However, as the tech titan introduced its latest version of Android in November, most Android users have not tried the update yet until now.

 In fact, only 1.6 percent of active Android devices are running on version 5.0 even if it was already available since three months ago.

Each phone manufacturer has to make changes for the software so that it will fit for their handset devices. Tech experts say it can take a long time for Android software updates to take off.

Most likely, though, new Android phones are already compatible with the update.

Other phones that have gotten the latest Lollipop update include HTC One M8, LG G2 and G3, Moto X and Moto G, Nexus 6, and OnePlus One.

In the coming months, Android 5.0 Lollipop update is expected to be made available also for Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9.

To install the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Samsung Galaxy S5, here is a good way to go:

1.     Connect to a Wi-Fi connection.

2.     From the home screen, click Menu > Settings > More > About device > Software update > Check for updates

3.     Click "Ok" button.

4.     The device will automatically start downloading the software update. Once complete touch "Continue" and the device will restart.

5.     Please wait until your phone reboots completely, and then select "Done" to finish.
