The Liverpool Reds is in talks for the acquisition of a stake in Australian football team Melbourne Victory, according to News.com.au. The report said Victory chairman Anthony Di Pietro has participated in the discussion this week, wrote This Is Anfield.

Victory is Australia's biggest football club. The team has drawn the largest crowds in the A-League year after year since 2006. The team is presently managed by Kevin Muscat, a former Millwall and Rangers defender. The professional team finished third in the said league during the latest season, the report detailed.

The news of a potential stake buy in Victory comes just after a month after Manchester city acquired an 80% interest in Melbourne Heart for A$12 million (around £6.5 million). According to News.com.au, a similar holding in Victory would amount to more than A$20 million (around £11 million), the report explained.

A-Leauge head Damien de Bohun said of the potential deal: "We will continue work with any club that considers to receive overseas investment as long as it is mutually beneficial."
