Facebook wants its users to discuss sports on it instead of Twitter. Today, it announced the acquisition of SportStream, a startup that aggregates sports data on social media. The idea is to get more people to choose Facebook as their sports discussion community, according to TechCrunch.

SportStream analyzes mentions of sports and social media and provides news outlets and teams with clean data access. Last month, Facebook had chosen the startup as an API partner with extensive access to its data. By acquiring SportStream, Facebook will be able to get rid of jumbled data in athletics posts and make sports data easier to process. Thus, the social media giant might get more teams and outlets to use it, the report explained.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. But it seems like SportStream will continue to work with the news outlets and fifty plus teams that is presently providing data to, TechCrunch reported.
