HP may once again take the lead in the notebook market in the third quarter, stated reports. Notebook shipments for the company were expected to increase by 15-20%, according to Taiwanese suppliers as reported by Digitimes.

This growth in notebook shipments was significantly boosted by government contracts. The government of Uttar Pradesh state, northern India, contracted HP for the procurement of 1.5 million notebooks. These notebooks will be used for educational purposes. In addition, HP also stood a good chance of winning a 2-million notebook bid with a local Indian government.

For the second quarter, Lenovo became the largest network vendor in the world. It had a 16.7% market share worldwide, while HP only had 16.4% according to IDC data. However, market shares was 16.7% for Lenovo and 16.3% for HP according to data from Gartner. Meanwhile, worldwide, there was a 6-7% decrease in notebook shipments for the second quarter. However, the global shipment volume was expected to grow in the fourth quarter, albeit by 4.8% only.
