Nintendo Co. declared Wednesday that has decided to retain its sales forecast for Wii U at 9 million units. The forecast for the game machine sales covered the entire year up to March 2014. The Wii U was the company's first entry into the eighth generation of video game consoles and the successor to the Wii.

The forecast retention was pushed through even though the company only sold 160,000 Wii U units, which was a 51% decrease in the units sales. These units were sold from April to June or the second quarter of 2013. This bumped up the total units sold to 3.61 million, by far.

According to its latest financial reports, there were 160,000 Wii U consoles shipped worldwide, with 90,000, 60,000, and 10,000 in Japan, North America, and Europe and Australia, respectively. Wii U games sold totaled 1.03 million, by far.

The company's earnings from sales went down JPY81.5 billion from last year's JPY84.8 billion. Its overall profit amounted to JPY8.62 billion, representing an improvement from the JPY17.23 billion loss it had for the same period in 2012.
