As anyone who carries out some investing will know, it is not always easy to make your investment decisions when at home or in the office. Sometimes, an opportunity arises that simply demands we invest now. From a new public offering to an investment opportunity that opens up for a short window, you should make a call on a big investment when you are in public.

Whether you are on the train, sitting in a café, or simply busy at work, do you feel safe doing this?

For any kind of venture capital investment that you make when in public, try and keep the following factors in mind.

Do not use public Wi-Fi

They might seem convenient as they are 'free,' but they tend to come at a security cost. Do not invest when on public Wi-Fi. Paying for private data and investing using your private connection is better. This is much safer, less likely to see data stolen, and reduces the risk of your information being used against you.

Investing in a public internet connection is a poor idea and could lead to long-term regrets. Try and avoid making that mistake.

Do not let anyone see your phone

The next thing to keep in mind is privacy regarding your screen. Ensure that nobody is watching you enter things like login details and credentials. While it would be hard for someone to steal your password simply by watching you type, intruders and thieves might be more inclined to try and take your device if they see it being used for something like this.

The best thing to do is to buy a privacy screen protector. Online platforms like ViaScreens can be a good place to start your search for such an item.

Do not speak in public

The other thing to keep in mind is what kind of information you share out loud. Yes, you could message friends and fellow investors about this - but do so via text, not voice messages or phone calls. Do not let anyone have the opportunity to pick up what you are saying, essentially. The more you can keep your dealings discrete, the easier it will be to ensure that you do not put yourself and/or your portfolio at needless risk.

If you absolutely must make a phone call regarding your investment, keep details light and ensure you are not sharing private details in public.

Look for a quiet place to work

The last thing you need when making a big investment decision is a distraction. Take the time to locate somewhere you can sit down, make the investment (or not), and feel good about yourself. Choosing a packed-out cafeteria with people around you means lots of distractions and chances for your mind to be taken elsewhere. This can lead to impulse decisions or missing out on an opportunity as you cannot focus enough to make the right call.

Keep the above ideas in mind, and it should be much easier for you to go through with your investment choice. If you have to decide in public, keep the above ideas in focus so you do not make a mistake and come to regret it.
