A Japanese mobile phone company has entered into a partnership with a California-based maker of clean energy to distribute hydrogen and bio-fuel cells in Japan.  

Softbank Corp. and Bloom Energy Corp. said in a statement that they will share joint ownership as they both invested US $10 million each in the new venture called Bloom Energy Japan Ltd.

In Softbank's website, Chief Executive Officer Masayoshi Son said: "By providing Bloom Energy's breakthrough technology through this new joint venture, SoftBank will further empower the adoption of innovative, clean energy."

Bloom's technology allows the user to generate electricity without burning the gas, which means lower carbon footprint and fewer power interruptions because they are not heavily reliant on the energy grid.

Bloom counts as clients the large retail chain Wal-Mart, soda giant Coca-Cola, telecomm firm AT&T and search engine Google

This is not the first venture of Softbank on alternative energy as it also owns stakes in the proposed solar and wind farm in separate sites west of Japan.
