By 2020, the grids all over the world were expected to spend around Eur50 billion equivalent or US$64.3 billion for new gears. According to Alstom's estimates, the amount would be needed for gears that would transport power across long distances. This would include connections to isolated renewable energy undertakings.

The stock of renewable energy was assessed to increase by one third of international power production by 2035. The electricity from remote dams, solar parks and wind farms were supposed to be moved to cities and the demand for this was expected to climb rapidly.

"Electricity is going to come from somewhere else in future, but it's still being consumed in the same places, so you need to remap everything," president of Alstom's grid business, Gregoire Poux-Guillaume, said when asked for a statement at the French engineering corporation's Stafford facility.

Alstom was one of the major companies that distribute high voltage direct current tools. It connected the population centers with offshore wind farm's current. Siemens and ABB also supplied HVDC.

For this financial year, the grid business recorded Eur5.1 billion of future orders. This included a Eur1 billion deal to connect the DolWin3 offshore wind farm of Germany.
