There was a rise in United Kingdom stocks this week, the biggest weekly gain seen in six months. There was an increase of 78.44 points to 6,453.96 in the FTSE 100 Index. This represented a 1.2% gain.

Last week, the index rallied 2.6%, its second largest weekly gain this year. This was after a pledge from the Bank of England and European Central Bank to keep interest rate at a low level.

The biggest gainer was Bovis Homes Group Plc. The price for Bovis Homes Group rose its highest since August 2007. This increase was posted after the firm said that it expected an increase to almost 11% in its housing operating profit margin in the first half.

Meanwhile, Lloyds Banking Group Plc gained 2.5%, as a person familiar with the situation said that a group led by Mervyn Davies, former Chairman of Standard Chartered Plc, may make a bid.

Meanwhile, investors continued to wait for Aloha Inc. to start the earnings season unofficially in the United States.
