"We've never been one to back down from a fight, Longmire will return to Netflix for Season 5." With this statement, Netflix announced the renewal of "Longmire" Season 5 on a Facebook post to the relief of the show's numerous fans.

Netflix picked up the Western crime drama from A&E last year after it was cancelled after three seasons. A&E at that time said that while the show garnered positive reviews and good ratings, it did not fit its target demographic. Soon, fan petitions and posts on social media convinced Warner Bros. to offer the show to various networks until a fourth season was picked up by Netflix. The decision proved to be a wise one for the streaming giant.

For months, Netflix kept fans in the dark as to "Longmire" Season 5's fate. According to Gospel Herald, it did not disclose last season's viewership numbers but they must have been good for Netflix to green light a season 5. Fans would be excited to know that showrunners are reportedly looking at ten seasons for the show.

The contemporary crime thriller is based on the "Walt Longmire" mystery novels written by Craig Johnson reports Realty Today. The series stars Robert Taylor as the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of AbsarokaCounty, Wyoming, Walt Longmire.

The fourth season tied up loose ends of what were left hanging in the third season. Longmire, having found out who was behind the murder of his wife, was bent on avenging her death reports Ecumenical News. Though Deputy Branch was fired for his erratic behavior, he was coming close to discovering who the killer was. Unfortunately, he was murdered before he could find out the truth. Viewers also saw Walt struggling with guilt and confusion over Branch's death last season.

The "Longmire" Season 4 finale left the viewers with a cliffhanger. Henry was handcuffed by tribal police officer Mathias. Meanwhile, Walt was at home with his new partner Donna. They were abruptly interrupted when someone crashes through their front door.

Nothing much is known about "Longmire" Season 5. Now that Netflix has renewed the series, it won't be long before fans will be on the lookout for possible spoilers until the new season is released.
