Yahoo's acquisition of Xobni rattled many venture capitalists about its price. Khosla Ventures and other venture capital backers assessed the email software maker for more than US$90 million.

Yahoo refused to reveal the amount it paid for Xobni. However, AllThingsD, a technological news site, reported that Yahoo's price for the software producer was only about US$30 million to US$40 million. peHub failed to verify the price and the terms included in the deal that made the stockholders settle.

The amount that was supposedly paid for Xobni was below its latest valuation. It also barely covered the sum venture capitalists invested.

According to Thomson Reuters, Xobni (inbox signified backwards) raised higher than US$35 million at progressively greater valuations. Throughout many rounds of estimations, seven distinct venture capital firms priced Xobni twice more than what Yahoo paid.

San Francisco-based Xobni recently raised US$10 million Series D round from Khosla Ventures, Relay Ventures and RRE Ventures. They all appraised Xobni at US$91 million.
