Google has recently announced their newest operating system, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This OS has been launched to a few devices and is now expected to be available for newest Sony Xperia models. However, the said update will not feature a solution to the Stagefright issue as its exploit has not been fully patched as of now.

PC Magazine said on its article that last Tuesday Sony proclaimed its rollout plans for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This announcement indicated that the Google's latest mobile operating system will be available on 14 different Xperia devices. Which includes the new Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4.

According to Tech Times, Sony has posted a blog post saying that "We've been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible, as quickly as we can". According to the company, they are "really excited about the new Sony features and functionality and the improvements" they have made to the user experience - and that they will be sharing more soon.

Unluckily, the Japanese tech giant confirmed that the Stagefright exploit has not been completely fixed in the rolled-out update as they have specified on its statement "Looks like the Stagefright exploit has not been fully patched in this update. We will attach some FTF firmware links in this post in due course, but in the meantime, if you have installed the update, let us know your initial impressions below."

Moreover, Sony did not mention the Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact. It is also most likely that the following units are not eligible of the Marshmallow update: Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia A4 and Xperia E3.

In addition, CNET said on its report that even though Sony officially announced that many of its Xperia phones will get Android 6.0, the rollout will still be slow and will depend on the user's carrier.

With the announcement of Sony, owners of the above mentioned devices are already excited to receive the operating system upgrade. But then, they still have to wait patiently as the roll out of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be gradual and will be based on their carriers.
