Iphone manufacturer Apple Inc. said that it will use long term rival Samsung Electronics Co.'s high resolution touchscreens for their latest tablet. The iPad mini, Apple's newest version for the best selling mobile device, was set to be released later this year according to Wall Street Journal.

The finance newspaper said that the company's original plan was to utilize Sharp Corporation and LG Electronics' high resolution screens. However, Apple decided to acquire parts from its direct competitor due to fear of undersupplying. LG Electronics is a top manufacturer headquartered in South Korea, while Sharp Corp. is a Japanese electronics firm.

In the past, Samsung and Apple went on a legal battle and disputes over patents in courts from different countries. Both companies hold a major portion of the global smartphone market. Currently, the South Korean tech giant edges Apple in terms of total profit and units shipped.

Curiously, despite the patent wars, Apple has been using Samsung parts for their products.
