Vodafone merges European units into one

British multinational telecommunications company Vodafone Group announced that a reorganization is in the works. Effective October 1, its European regions will be merged into one unit. Philipp Humm will lead the new unit composed of the northern, central, and southern regions of Europe. Southern Europe head Paolo Bertoluzzo will act as the commercial and operations officer of the reorganized unit. The restructuring will also affect the mobile operator's successful division in Turkey, of which will be incorporated in the unit comprised of Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Chief Executive Vittorio Colao announced that this the fusion will benefit both the customers and the company. "These organizational changes will allow us to improve the customer experience and develop our commercial strategy more quickly and consistently," he told Reuters.

Vodafone is next to China Mobile in terms of subscribers and revenues, making it the second largest mobile telecommunications operator worldwide. It currently operates in 21 countries around the globe.
