T-Mobile Now Releases Live Software Update to Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge & Galaxy S6: Advanced Messaging, Video Calling, & More New Features

T-Mobile has just released earlier today a software update to its Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 units bringing new features like the carrier's native video calling and advanced messaging. The software update is part of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Mobile carrier's Galaxy S6 Edge (G925T) and Galaxy S6 (G920T) smartphones begins receiving a software update after the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop that brings five new features T-Mobile identified on its support page. Aside from the advanced messaging and video calling features, the update also brings in Google Wallet, Dropbox, and work profile or device owner.

Here are easy steps to activate T-Mobile's native video calling technology:

1.     Navigate to the contact's number and dial it.

2.     If the contact is available, a green camera icon will show up beside the contact's number. Tap this icon to begin video call.

3.     When calling began with audio, just tap the video call option on the dialer to switch to a video call.

4.     Once the video call is connected, these options will pop up:

  • Switch camera
  • Mute
  • Show me
  • Hide me
  • Decline
  • End call

5.     Switch back to an audio call will disallow the caller to go back to video call. To video call again, hang up and repeat step 1 or 3.

Users have the option to use a video call through a VoLTE Data network or Wi-Fi calling. To activate VoLTE Data network, go to Phone > MORE > Settings > Voice over LTE. To turn on, tap "Use VoLTE when available." To turn off, tap "Do not use VoLTE."

To activate Wi-Fi Calling, go to Apps > Settings > Connections > More > Wi-Fi Calling. Just slide the Wi-Fi Switch right to the ON position. Choose the Wi-Fi preferred or Never use Cellular Network to turn on Wi-Fi calling.

Here are easy steps to activate the Advanced Messaging feature:

1.     Go to Messages.

2.     Select More icon

3.     Tap Settings.

4.     Select Chat settings.

5.     Choose the following options to modify your settings:

  • Send read receipt (ON/OFF)
  • Multimedia limit
    • Automatically accept all
    • Automatically accept files less than 3000 MB in size
  • Roaming auto download (ON/OFF)
  • Image size
    • Best available
    • Original
    • Large (50%)
    • Medium (20%)
    • Small (10%)
  • Share typing indications (ON/OFF)

Users have the option to use a video call through a VoLTE Data network or Wi-Fi calling. To activate VoLTE Data network, go to Phone > MORE > Settings > Voice over LTE. To turn on, tap "Use VoLTE when available." To turn off, tap "Do not use VoLTE."
