Android 6.0 Marshmallow Brings Easier Emergency Calls, New Google Translate, API Level 23 Supports, & More

Android 6.0 Marshmallow will bring a bunch of goodies in a box as its much-anticipated kick-start rollout begins later this month. As final developer preview shows, Marshmallow will feature improvements in emergency calls, new Google Translate,

Emergency calls automatically appears with the nearest contact center and current location. The dialer performs some notable actions when dialing 911 or other registered emergency number. When dialed, the name of the number will appear on the screen, covered on a GPS map of your current location.

The new E-911 systems will automatically show ballpark location to a correspondent and it helps by giving precise directions. It will also give out specific information which service center the user is using. While most dispatch centers can re-route remote ambulance services, police and firefighters anywhere in the area.

The new API level 23 introduces support to the fingerprint scanner for a better enrolment experience. It will also bring better error reporting, and enumeration support. The user-facing app permission controls and behaviors have been changed.

Earlier than expected, the Android 6.0 shows off downloadable Marshmallow wallpapers for greater look and feel. The visual voicemail service will be added on the dialer. However, T-Mobile and a French carrier are the only networks as of now reported to support this feature.

A rotatable home screen will now function in landscape format for apps and home screen. The dark Marshmallow theme which was first seen on the first developer preview has been ditched over in the second preview.

The new app drawer removes the alphabetical divider and idle space at the end of some sections. This makes the drawer to more faster. A delete option to the screenshot has been added in the notification drawer.

Status bar icons can be personalized based on favorites or frequency of use. Those who are idle apps for quite some time users will have the option to remove them.

Other features expected to with Android 6.0 Marshmallow are RAM manager, network settings reset option, storage overhaul, personalized Chrome tabs, supports for Android Pay and USB Type-C, app links, and a lot more.
