LG and Samsung rumors might be true after all as new reports have circulated that both South Korean tech firms are skipping the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and head straight to Android 6.0 or Marshmallow as it debuts in late September.

LG and Samsung are reported to roll out the Marshmallow update to its flagship devices first either in late September or as the year ends. Although the tech titans have not released final statement for the upcoming upgrades, words in the rumor mill are now closer to reality as sources tell LG and Samsung are scrambling to get the update to keep up with the other brands in the tech department.

While still stuck in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based custom ROMs, LG and Samsung's mobile operating system are mostly updated with the official over-the-air (OTA) Android 5.1 Lollipop while others are still with Android 5.0. LG G4, G3, G2, Samsung Galaxy S6, and Galaxy S6 Edge are still running with Android 5.1 Lollipop while Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ are already running with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop when it came out of the box last month.

LG has been well-known with skipping Android updates. It first done so with Android 4.4.4 KitKat and proceed to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Flagship devices G4, G3 and G2 and all its series devices are expected to pioneer Android 6.0 Marshmallow for LG's lineup. For Samsung's lineup, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy S6 are bound for a sweet treat from Marshmallow. However, there also mid-range handsets from both companies rumored to get the update too alongside the high-end devices.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expected to bring in several bug fixes and battery and system performance optimization. Here's a quick rundown to Android 6.0 Marshmallow's new features and improvements:

1.       Android Pay

2.       Fingerprint scanner support

3.       Samsung Pay support

4.       App permissions

5.       App links

6.       Doze, the battery saver

Google's own Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player are the sole devices running with the new Android firmware only for developer previews which is now on its third and final stage.

Other expected brands to receive the update are Sony, Motorola, HTC, Asus, and Lenovo, among others.
