"Agents of SHIELD" went for a more death scenes during the ultimate episode of season 2 listing Skye's mother, whom she have looked for since the beginning of the show, as one of the casualties. But the most shocking death for sure is Simmons' especially for the Fitzsimmons shippers. However, there might still be hope for them next season, teased showrunner Jeffrey Bell.

There is a huge amount of uncertainty on "Agents of SHIELD" season 3 after the events on the last season's finale. One thing's for sure though, Chloe Bennet's Skye will be dealing with enormous matters and responsibilities with the possibility of being the leader of super-powered individuals.

Towards the end of season 2 finale titled, "SOS," Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, told Skye that needs to form a group of superhuman after she discovered her own special powers.

Skye has surely come a long way from being a rogue during the first season to a more mature agent on the last. Even Chloe Bennet agrees to the major development that her character has undergone, reports Entertainment Weekly.

"The Skye that I auditioned as is nothing close to the Skye that she has become," Bennet said. "She's maturing faster than I am. She was a hippie hacker in a van that was anti-S.H.I.E.L.D. and anti-government. Now she works for S.H.I.E.L.D., she's an Inhuman, she has trained and understands why S.H.I.E.L.D. does what they do.

However, the actress teases that as she decides to take some major responsibility next season, Skye will be experiencing "a level of devastation" due to the death of Jiaying, her mother.

Aside from Skye's story, fans are surely wondering what will happen to the Fitzsimmons pairing following the "death" of Jemma Simmons, played by Elizabeth Henstridge. But executive producer Jeffrey Bell dropped a major tease about Simmons' fate on the show.

"Who knows, maybe that thing took her to Disneyland and she's riding on the "Cars" ride, having the time of her life," Bell tells Variety. He then adds that Simmons' "death" promises an intriguing next season.

"Agents of SHIELD" season 3 will see a devastated Skye as she takes up some huge responsibilities as a leader of super-powered people. The fate of Simmons is still uncertain at the moment following the events of season 2's finale. But showrunner leaves some hope for the fans of Fitzsimmons when the show returns on September 29 on ABC.
