A UK-based report is predicting that mobile apps could become the leader in terms of venture capital investment in 2014, wrote BetaKit.

According to the "Global State of Enterprise Mobility for the Past, Present and Future" report, mobile app startups could be the top global investment among IT practitioners and enterprise mobility in the following year. Almost half (47.6%) of the respondents told the survey that they would prioritize investment in mobile applications in 2014. This was followed by Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) devices. The third place among investment priorities was taken by Mobile Device Management (MDM), the report detailed.

Meanwhile, mobile security investment is increasing in priority in the next 12 to 18 months. Of the survey respondents, 42.9% are selecting is a likely investment. In the past 18 months, 20% had already invested in the said sector, the report said.

Increased productivity was cited by 70% of the respondents as the main reason for prioritizing mobile solution investments. The biggest hindrances to mobile implementation today include budget limitations, integration with legacy systems, and change management issues, the report stated.

The Enterprise Mobility Exchange is an online business based in London. The community caters mostly to professionals and business leaders connected to mobile technology and services, BetaKit reported.
