LivingSocial announced a 25% discount on its local and travel deals for US and Canadian clients. The promo is an attempt to compensate for the 40-hour outage that paralyzed LivingSocial's website, merchant center, and apps. The said outage started Tuesday afternoon, according to a report published by AllThingsD.

To avail of the 25% discount, US and Canadian customers have to use the promo codes HEAR25 and HEART25CA, respectively. LivingSocial will cut the discount to 15% over the weekend. By then, customers can use the codes WEEKEND15 and WEEKEND15CA, the report stated.

According to LivingSocial spokeswoman Sara Parker, the rare outage affected affected the company's sites in seven regions worldwide, including those in Canada, the UK, and the US. She also said a database crash caused the outage. They failed to restore the database using a backup, the report explained.

Parker assured the customers that the outage did not affect credit card information and customer sign-in data, AllThingsD reported.
