According to a Reuters report, the Senate and House of Representatives had passed a legislation at the last minute Wednesday. The legislation had cause the reopening of the government, sparing the US against the repercussions of a potential debt default.

The bill had been submitted to President Barack Obama to be signed. The 35-page economic measure included an allocation of USD450 million for the Colorado flood relief and an over USD600 million allotment to cover the costs stemming from the recent California wildfire. The measure also stipulated a USD2.455 allocation to speed up claims to be processed by the Veterans Administration.

The measure also included provisions to make sure that federal workers on furlough were paid for 16 days - the number of days the US government had shut down.

Interestingly, the measure had also stipulated that members of the US Congress would not get any pay increase nor receive living adjustment costs for 2014 fiscal year starting October 1.
