A popular chocolate treat sold at Wegmans stores is being pulled from shelves after it was found to contain a hidden milk ingredient that wasn't listed on the label.

On June 25, Mellace Family Brands California, Inc., an Ohio-based company, announced a product recall.

According to USA Today, the product in question is Wegmans Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils, a chocolate candy topped with tiny white sprinkles.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that milk was found in the candy, even though the packaging did not mention it.

"The recall was initiated after it was discovered that Wegmans Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils contained a milk allergen and was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk," the FDA shared.

The issue appears to have come from a temporary breakdown in the supplier's manufacturing process.

Milk is a common allergen, and its presence in a mislabeled product could be dangerous. "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product," the FDA explained.

Wegmans Recalls Candy Tubs Over Undeclared Milk Ingredient

The recalled chocolates were sold at Wegmans locations in eight states: Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia—and also in Washington, DC.

The recalled product is sold in 18.5 oz plastic tubs labeled "Wegmans Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils." You can check for it using the UPC code: 0 77890 49787 6, Newsweek said.

Customers are advised to look at the left side of the tub to find the specific lot codes and best-by dates linked to the recall:

55021 – Dec. 28, 2025
55031 – Dec. 29, 2025
55491 – Feb. 13, 2026
55501 – Feb. 14, 2026
56061 – April 11, 2026
56071 – April 12, 2026

So far, no one has reported getting sick or having an allergic reaction from the product. But if you bought this candy and have a milk allergy, don't eat it. Instead, return it to Wegmans for a full refund.
