The multiplayer version of Grand Theft Auto 5 finally went online at 4 am Pacific Standard Time today. However, a Forbes report said many gamers seeking to play Grand Theft Auto Online got a "failure to host session" message. Game creator Rockstar North had earlier warned developers that they could encounter problems due to the number of players that would attempt to play the online game today.

Forbes contributor Paul Tassi tried to log in to the game numerous times. However, he only received the failure message and an apology from Rockstar asking for patience as they work to resolve the issue. He also said the support forum has also gone offline.  Although he was able to prompt the race to start in solo mode, he got the failure error again after his car was delivered.

Although gamers were frustrated at their attempts to play GTA Online, investors like Carl Icahn reaped the benefits of the robust sales of GTA 5. According to a Forbes report, Icahn holds a 12.6% stake in Take Two Interactive Software, the parent company of Rockstar. His 11.2 million shares make him the largest individual stakeholder in Take Two. With the firm's stock up by about 70%, Icahn's stake in Take Two is estimated to be worth around USD 200 million, the report said.
