Rockstar Games has confirmed to video and entertainment site IGN.com that Grand Theft Auto Online would go live on October 1 at 4am PacificStandard Time. Enthusiasts would expect that they could play the online version on Xbox Live and the Playstation Network. Those who have purchased GTA 5 would have access to the multiplayer add-on through a Title Update on both online platforms, IGN said.

A maximum of 16 players could play GTA Online. Game creator Rockstar North said players would be able to join in open-world crime and chaos, races, jobs and sports to enhance their reputation and increase cash flow in the game.

Computer and video games websites CVG reported that the sales of GTA 5 may have already reached 15 million units globally. CVG cited a research note to investors written by Cowen & Company's Analyst Doug Creutz.  "Based on the $1B three-day figure Take-Two disclosed, we believe the game has already sold through at least 15MM units," Creutz said.

In the note, Creutz also said the sales of GTA 5 would be front-loaded because of the high anticipation from gamers. He added that GTA 5 would be able to sell 25 million copies in its first year of release.
