KFC is making a big move to win over US customers by giving away free buckets of fried chicken for a limited time.

Starting this week, the fast-food chain is giving away a "Free Bucket on Us" to customers who spend $15 through the KFC app or website.

To qualify, customers must be signed up for the KFC Rewards program.

According to FoxBusiness, the promotion is part of what KFC calls its "Kentucky Fried Comeback," a campaign designed to reconnect with loyal fans and boost sales.

In a statement, KFC US President Catherine Tan-Gillespie said, "We're well aware of the latest fried chicken rankings, and I'm fired up to launch a bold Kentucky Fried Comeback."

The company says it has made improvements in operations and food quality, and now it's asking customers to give them another try.

The campaign also features a more serious version of Colonel Sanders on signs and billboards to show the brand means business.

"The Colonel would not be happy about our market share," Tan-Gillespie added. "We're serious about reminding America exactly who we are."

Along with the free chicken bucket offer, KFC is also bringing something new to the table—fried pickles, available for a limited time.

The fried pickles are served with your choice of KFC's Comeback Sauce or classic ranch dressing.

And for budget-conscious customers, KFC has brought back its $7 Fill Ups, offering several meal choices that include sides and a drink, ABC News said.

The chain is also leaning into fan engagement. "Try our chicken, tell us what you think, and help co-create this comeback," the brand said in its announcement.

KFC's comeback push comes as competition in the fast-food fried chicken world heats up. The company has seen a small drop in US sales this year, while other chains like Chick-fil-A and Popeyes continue to grow.

Globally, KFC still performs strongly, with nearly 32,000 locations worldwide—only 11% of which are in the US Yum! Brands, which owns KFC, also operates Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Habit Burger Grill.

To get the free chicken deal, customers need to order by app or website and be part of the rewards program. This deal is only available for a short time and will last only while supplies are still in stock.
