MedImpact Healthcare Systems Inc revealed its plans to acquire Apex Affinity. This purchase will be the company's second strategic investment in a matter of weeks. Earlier, it had acquired ScriptSave, a firm that specializes in pharmacy loyalty programs for its customers. As a privately-held firm, MedImpact Healthcare Systems is the biggest provider of pharmacy benefit management (PBM) services in the United States. Apex Affinity provides large affinity groups with prescription savings programs for their customers. The sale is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.

The acquisition of ScriptSave and Apex Affinity will enable MedImpact to expand its customer base, allowing it to offer both prescription discount services as well as loyalty programs to various groups, including health plans, retailers, and direct marketing firms. Greg Watanabe, President of MedImpact, said Apex's services will benefit consumers. "By reducing the cost of prescriptions not covered by insurance, Apex's services are good for consumers, employers, providers, and our nation's healthcare system," he said.
