Quickly after Google announced its new product, Chromecast, the company received a large volume of orders. However, initial orders rapidly sold out on the Google Play store. CNET reported that the new device went out of stock Wednesday evening and shipping dates were moved from August 2 to 7.

Besides Google, Amazon.com and Best Buy also sold Chromecast through their respective websites. In Amazon, too, it seemed that the device quickly moved from "in stock" to "temporarily out of stock".

The dongle was sold at US$35. The price included a free Netflix subscription valid for 3 months. This was considered to be "a perk that 'subsidizes' the $35 Chromecast price tag down to about $11".

Chromecast was a new media streaming accessory that allowed users to stream web content via their TV. The device can be connected to a TV's HDMI port and worked by linking up with a WiFi network.
