Apple Inc., a tech giant, was rumored to make a phablet or a huge phone-tablet. The rumor was against the company's former touchscreen strategy. However, it was said to be the next target as Apple vied against Samsung and insisted on bringing bigger screens for iPhone and iPad.

"It [the iPhone 5] also provides a larger screen size without sacrificing the one-handed ease of use that our customers love," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in June.

Consequently, The Wall Street Journal had sources who told Lorraine Luk that the company would go bigger as it studied the sizes of screens for its products. "In recent months, Apple has asked for prototype smartphone screens larger than 4 inches and has also asked for screen designs for a new tablet device measuring slightly less than 13 inches diagonally," sources familiar with the matter said.

"After gaining a dominant position in the most profitable high-end segment, it makes sense [for Apple] to expand their product portfolio to tap into the other largely underserved segments," an analyst said.

The speculations further proved that the new Apple revamped its former strategies. It cared about making more money through gadgets they hoped consumers would love.
