Japan's Softbank Corp is likely to tap the US bond market to fund the $20 billion acquisition of US wireless carrier T-Mobile, according to a report by the Nikkei business daily.

On Tuesday, AT&T agreed to sell its wireline assets in Connecticut to Frontier Communications for $2 billion in cash in order to fund the US phone company's ongoing massive network upgrades.

AT&T will be up against smaller rival T-Mobile should the former decide to offer a bid for Verizon Wireless' spectrum block. Verizon, which bought the asset for USD2.4 billion, is seeking to generate USD2.75 billion from the sale.
