'Mad Max: The Wasteland' may not feature Charlize Theron's one-armed soldier Imperator Furiosa. It was revealed that the chances of her making a comeback in George Miller's subsequent films in the rebooted franchise may be lesser than expected.

According to Digital Spy, fans of Theron's robot-armed super soldier may be disappointed to learn that her character may not be featured in the upcoming sequel. Although Imperator Furiosa busted through the big-screen as the first film's lead female protagonist, Miller remained vague on his plans to keep Theron's character for his succeeding films.

He admitted, "She's not in the Mad Max [sequel] story, but in one of the stories there's an interaction between [Max and Furiosa]. I can't really say more than that because it's still in progress."

In 'Mad Max: Fury Road', Furiosa was introduced as a soldier and survivalist who was under the employ of Immortan Joe. She ultimately betrayed him in order to free his slaves and concubines known as The Five Wives. She then befriends Tom Hardy's Max Rockatansky, after some initial aggression, and becomes his ally on the road to The Green Place.

Theron received general praise for her performance as Furiosa. It was reported by Moviepilot that when asked about her involvement in the sequel, she merely replied, "What's that?" She was speculated to have feigned ignorance at first but now it seems her astonishment may have been real.

According to The Verge, Hardy has signed on for at least three more sequels of Miller's post-apocalyptic world. He plays the title protagonist Max who was portrayed by Mel Gibson in the first three films from the Mad Max franchise. Miller previously reported that his subsequent films will focus on the backstories of each familiar character and that he hoped there would be lesser special effects and not too much stunts in the future.

Perhaps the idea of slashing out Theron's Furiosa altogether would be too early to assume at this point. She may be an essential lead to future stories and development.

'Mad Max: The Wasteland' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film intended as a follow-up to the 2015 reboot that grossed $374 million in the box office. Its predecessor starred Hardy as Max, Theron as Furiosa, Nicholas Hoult as Hux, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe, Rosie Hutington-Whiteley as The Splendid Angharad, and Zoe Kravitz as Toast The Knowing. It was considered a major critical and financial success.
