'Star Trek Beyond' has wrapped up filming as confirmed by writer-actor Simon Pegg. The film directed by Justin Lin will move on to post-production for the next eight months in time for a scheduled 2016 release. The newest set photos have emerged featuring the cast and crew of the upcoming follow-up.

According to MovieWeb, Justin Lin's much-anticipated sequel to 2013's 'Star Trek Into Darkness' has recently wrapped up filming and is moving on to a lengthy post-production for the next eight months. Lin joined in as a replacement for J.J. Abrams, who chose to exit the franchise after 2009's 'Star Trek'. The latter has decided to work on the upcoming 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' instead.

Lin is best known for his work on the 'Fast and Furious' franchise as well as various television series including 'Community', 'Scorpion' and 'True Detective'. His films have grossed a combined $2 billion worldwide.

The upcoming science-fiction film is intended to be the third installment in the rebooted 'Star Trek' cinematic series. It is based on a screenplay by Doug Jung and Simon Pegg, according to Collider. Pegg will also star as Lt. Commander Montgomery "Scotty" Scott alongside Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock, Zoe Saldana as Lt. Nyota Uhura, Karl Urban as Lt. Commander Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, John Cho as Lt. Hikaru Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov.

According to Screen Rant, Pegg announced the end of production through his Twitter account by posting an image of himself and co-writer Jung captioned, "That's a wrap on Star Trek Beyond! Writers, Doug Jung and Simon Pegg consider life after Trek." Principal photography began in Canada and moved on to other locations including South Korea and Dubai. Several images from on-set the Dubai location were also released revealing the cast and crew as well as new alien species to be featured in the film.

Lin's film will focus on the crew of the USS Enterprise as they go through their five-year mission. It will follow Capt. Kirk, Spock, and the rest through their journey to the final frontier - a plot that would fall in conjunction with the original show's.

'Star Trek Beyond' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film scheduled for release on July 22, 2016. It is said to be the third installment in the rebooted cinematic series and the thirteenth in the overall franchise. The series is based on the original series created by Gene Roddenberry and has earned itself a massive fanbase since then.
