'Jurassic World 2' is a yet-titled sequel to Colin Trevorrow's 2015 addition to the famous 'Jurassic Park' series. Trevorrow hinted at some plot points as well as inspiration for his reboots. He also teased that Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing will remain a central character in the follow-up.

According to Cinema Blend, Trevorrow talked to Wired UK regarding some plans for his upcoming sequel. He teased, "What if this went open source? It's almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?"

In the preceding film, someone attempted to steal some genetic material from the prehistoric creatures in order sell them to an interested buyer outside of the island. B.D. Wong's Dr. Henry Wu's statement of "We're not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur," may have also laid the foundation for the future direction of the franchise.

In another article by HitFix, Trevorrow announced that Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt will return as the main protagonists for 'Jurassic World 2'. He stressed that Howard's Claire Dearing will remain a central character in the planned trilogy. Claire is a park operation's manager while Pratt's Owen Grady is a velociraptor trainer.

Trevorrow further fueled speculations of the second film being set outside the island by saying, "We made [Jurassic World] with the fans very much in mind and I'm not going to forget that. But we've seen a lot of 'dinosaurs chasing people around on an island' movies. And I think you guys and the general audience are going to be down to explore where else we can go. Owen is going to be in it, Claire is in it and neither are going to be in the same place we left them in the first movie."

The filmmaker previously hinted at focusing more on the technology and science behind the film instead of making it another "creature feature".

According to IGN, Trevorrow's upcoming film will be based on a particular line of dialogue from the very first cinematic release in the franchise. Back in 1993, Sam Neill's Dr. Alan Grant once said, "Dinosaurs and man, separated by 65 million years of evolution, have been thrown back into the mix together. How can we know what to expect?" Trevorrow revealed that he will use the line as a starting point for creating the sequel.

'Jurassic World 2' is a science-fiction and adventure film intended as the fifth installment in the 'Jurassic Park' franchise. The series was first based on Michael Crichton's novel of the same name. The sequel is intended for release on June 22, 2018.

Its predecessor became the highest grossing film of 2015 as well as the third highest grossing film of all time - the first being 'Avatar' and the second 'Titanic' both directed by James Cameron. It followed events set 22 years after 'Jurassic Park'.
