BlackBerry Priv will reportedly run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and fix Android's security problems. A UK retailer revealed Priv's price, full specifications, and release date.

Android users have been experiencing security issues with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop lately especially with the Stagefright vulnerability. According to a Cambridge University study, nine out of 10 Android devices are prone to a serious security risk.

BlackBerry recently hired mobile security expert David Kleidermacher to fix Android's security flaws in the BlackBerry Priv as per Cantech Letter. Kleidermacher wrote in the company's blog: "BlackBerry® will bring BlackBerry mobile privacy, security and productivity to the Android world. With full access to Google Mobile Services, the Google Play app store, the latest hardware specs, and a revolutionary slide-out, touch-enabled keyboard, PRIV offers a no-compromise user experience to privacy-minded consumers and enterprises."

Kleidermacher added that the BlackBerry Priv will boost Android security with the addition of new features such as picture-login, SecuSUITE private voice calls, BBM Meetings private conferences, WatchDox private document sharing, and Blackberry Certicom's certified cryptography. Blackberry CEO John Chen said that Kleidermacher's knowledge is vital to the company's strategy for the Priv.

NDTV Gadgets reported that the BlackBerry Priv focuses on providing top-notch security and privacy for users. BlackBerry previously launched a promo video showing the improvements done on the Priv to make its Android OS more secure and private.

The BlackBerry Priv is a premium smartphone that will run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS instead of the expected Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It will have a 5.4" QHD curved display with a unique sliding keyboard. It houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chip along with 3GB RAM. Camera-wise, it will have an 18MP rear shooter and a 2MP selfie snapper.

According to a report by KRWG News 22, a UK retailer called Carphone Warehouse claimed to exclusively sell the BlackBerry Priv revealed the device's price, full specifications, and release date. According to Carphone Warehouse, the BlackBerry Priv will be delivered by November 6 and will be priced at £579.95 without SIM.

Pre-orders for the BlackBerry Priv are available from Carphone Warehouse. The retailer offers the Priv in black color option.
