The Dollar Menu drove an increase in sales for the world's largest food service company, McDonald's Corp. The company posted a 2.6% rise in sales in May.

Analysts predicted a lower rise of 1.9% for the restaurant chain. The U.S. giant managed to defy the low estimates with help from its Dollar Menu campaign, as well as a boost in breakfast item sales.

With numerous marketing strategies to improve its sales, such as a number of new food options (egg-white sandwiches, chicken McWraps, and an array of Quarter Pounder variations), McDonalds said that the company is going for more "aggressive" tactics mainly on their menu.

The chain reported a series of minute losses and gains within the past five months.

In a statement released by McDonald's, the sales were helped by chicken items, breakfast choices, and "everyday value." The previously stated new items also increased the sales of the restaurant chain.

McDonald's is the world's most widely known restaurant chain, with an estimated 35,000 stores globally, 14,100 of which are in the United States.
