Sony may be quite with regards to rolling out updates on their devices, but it reported that the consumer electronics giant will be releasing a new update for their Android 5.0 Lollipop.

According to NSEAVOICE, Sony is currently testing the 5.1 update for Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z2 which will bring improvements on the 5.0's flaws.

In relation to the update, IB Times also reported that Sony will be bringing an update for their Xperia series and the first batch of devices to receive the update will be the Z3, Z3 Compact and Z2. The update that Sony will bring in the coming weeks was also reported to have the fix for the Stagefright Hack.

IB Times also pointed out that the update will be around 2.6MB in size and will be applicable on newer devices with the 35 libstagefright libraries. On another published article by Tech Frag, they also mentioned the update for the stagefright hack and specified that the Xperia Z3 (D6603), Z3 Compact (D5803) and Z2 (D6503) are the first Xperia models who will get the update. The report also pointed out that the update will be initially available in Austria, The UK and Spain.

Stagefright Hack was discovered by a security analyst for Zomporium and quickly prompted Google about the flaw. The virus, if left unnoticed, will potentially affect at least 950 million android users, the website added. Although the virus only needs a single message to infect, there are measures that owners can take to avoid the hack.

Since the Stagefright hack is coursed through an MMS which can be downloaded automatically by the device through messages and Google Hangouts, the best way to protect one is to simply disable the auto download and auto read MMS messages from the phone settings.

Now, if the phone is infected, an owner can always perform the restore device from factory setting in order to kick out the hack from the device. The hack can camouflage itself inside the phone by covering its tracks with tons of codes and what's dangerous about it is the fact that cyber criminals can perform the hack without a single clue.

With the 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Sony Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z2, regardless if the update is still in the pipeline, is a good sign that the multi-billion dollar company is truly committed with their promise to protect and care for their customers.
