Android 5.1.1 Lollipop official over-the-air (OTA) update is finally hitting Samsung Galaxy S5 units of AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile after months of hearing what used to be a rumor only.

At the moment, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S5 units of the major mobile carriers in the US and Canada. This update brings in a long term solution to the infamous Stagefright vulnerability issue. Stagefright is the name given to a potential exploit that dwells within the Android operating system.

The vulnerability issue operates by sending a video message which becomes an avenue of potential threat or attack. Google's Hangouts app specifically was pointed out the problem came from.

It will automatically process the video and will be ready for viewing. As soon as opening the video message, the bug will attack without the user knowing it.

This bug fix has been first released three weeks ago through the said update but only to select networks, brands and regions. Like any other Android updates, 5.1.1 Lollipop comes in stages. First to receive updates from Google are Russia, South Korea and Poland followed by Northern America.

Whenever is ready to update, Samsung shall notify the user via message. Just tap "install" to go on with the new stock firmware installation, then follow onscreen instructions.

For those who cannot wait to see what Android 5.1.1. Lollipop has to offer to Samsung Galaxy S5, head over to Settings > Click About phone > Click Software update > Choose Check for update.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update brings in system stability improvements, performance optimization and battery life enhancements, and a few other tweaks.

Other Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets which are now enjoying the perks of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop are Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 4, among others.
