Google's own smartphone line Nexus devices just received the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update via factory images including Nexus 10, 6, 5, 4, 3, two versions of Nexus 9 and two versions of Nexus 7.

Through the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), Nexus devices can now flash factory images of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi and Mobile, and Nexus 9 LTE and Wi-Fi aside from Nexus 10, 6, 5, 4, and 3.

While over-the-air release of Android's latest and perhaps final Lollipop update has not yet come to most devices, Nexus users are given the chance to take advantage first of what 5.1.1 Lollipop has to offer.

The new factory image has build number LMY48I. It comes with a fix on the widely known Stagefright vulnerability issue.

In the US, major mobile carrier Sprint first announced the news for their versions of Nexus 5 and Nexus 6. While other carriers here were waiting for Google's official announcement before hitting the go button.

Meanwhile, Google Developer has provided a step by step guide on how to manually update their Nexus device to the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop stock firmware. However, Google leaves off a few reminders for Nexus owners to consider before heading to a new world of Lollipop.

Reminders

1.     Ensure the device's bootloader is unlocked via Fastboot tool.

2.     Verify the device model first. Unsuitable models may be damaged.

6.     Enable USB debugging mode.

7.     Ensure the device is rooted with TWRP or CWM recovery.

To finally install the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update via factory images, here's a good way to go:
