Samsung is now on the verge of treating all its Galaxy smartphones and tablets with Android 5.1 Lollipop update to get ahead in the game while a few of its devices are already enjoying the perks of 5.1.1 as others are waiting for the official rollout.

Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 are now joining the ranks of devices running the Android 5.1 Lollipop and in a matter of months will hit Google's latest Android stock firmware 5.1.1.

Reports meanwhile point out that since Android M is scenting, waiting for the official announcement Samsung are planning to skip 5.1.1 and head over to Android M. Reports however have not been confirmed until now.

Android 5.1 Lollipop update comes in staged roll out since July depending on the mobile carrier, the device's model and the user's location. With 5.1 Lollipop, some expected changes and enhancements include optimized system performance, and better camera properties.

Samsung notes that the Android update's changelog may vary depending on the mobile carrier, region and phone model.

US major mobile carrier T-Mobile has already let out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to its versions of Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge since June. The update brings in fixes to the widely known Stagefright issue.

US Cellular updated their own versions of Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge last June as well, followed by Sprint in July.

In France, 5.1 Lollipop has been released to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge last June and about a week later 5.1.1 Lollipop was sent out. In India, 5.1 Lollipop has been made available to Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in July.

T-Mobile also has released the 5.1 update to Galaxy S5 last June. In Russia, Galaxy Note 4 started to get dressed with 5.1 last month. Early this month, the update was sent out to Sprint's Galaxy Note 4. Expected to follow suit are Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, and Galaxy S5 variants.

The over-the-air release of Android 5.1 Lollipop will automatically be sent to the device. To check whether the phone is already updated or is ready to be update, head over to Settings > About phone > Software update > Check for update.
