After five years, Tron fans will be delighted to know that Tron 3: Ascension is already in the works.

"The delay has only ever been story, finding the right story. It hasn't been anything else. There's never been a time where we wanted to go and then schedules got in the way. In the past year, the right story kind of came together... the fact that there's a goal of this year to start is really exciting, Olivia Wilde said recently, confirming the third installment really is going to be in production soon.

The 31-year old American actress, who also started in films like Cowboys and Aliens and The Lazarus Effect after the 2010 Tron flick, mentioned that the filming will begin this October in Vancouver, Canada.

"You know, I've heard the same. I think there's a lot of people really excited to make it happen within Disney and in the world, and we've been dreaming of making it since we finished Legacy so I would be thrilled," Wilde said.

Wilde who played Quorra, the last surviving member of the ISO race in Tron: Legacy, will return in the upcoming science fiction/adventure film which is rumored to have a 2017 release date.

"I love this character so much and I've built her with Joe Kosinski and we took her such a long way from what was written to what we made. I mean, I fought for her to be this kind of androgynous child and that's so not what you typically see in these movies, so I'm so grateful that the producers let me play with her and make her this strange little being."

"And I'm really excited to see what happens to that character when put into the real world. I think it's an interesting concept. I'm fascinated by all discussions of AI, and especially now today and now with virtual reality becoming something that's like a personal device, I think it's the time to tell this story," she added.

Aside from Wilde, actors Garett Hedlund and Bruce Boxleitner will be reprising their roles as Sam Flynn and Alan Bradley, respectively, in Tron 3. Both Sam and Quorra will be in the real world where the last movie left off, according to Wilde.

Koinski will also be back as the director for Tron 3: Ascension. Boxleitner previously confirmed that The Dark Knight franchise's Scarecrow, Cillian Murphy, will play the main antagonist Edward Dillinger Jr.

"Let's just say...Cillian Murphy doesn't do cameos," he said.

More updates will be made in the next weeks as Disney is expected to release a formal announcement on Tron 3: Ascension soon.
