QuakeCon, the convention that celebrates games from the developer id Software, has just finished up another yearly convention, as of last week.

And one of (if not the biggest) game to be showcased at QuakeCon was "Doom 4," the long-awaited sequel to the classic gaming franchise. The original "Doom," of course, was one of the original first-person shooters in gaming history, and revolutionized the genre (also, the game's violence was a subject of controversy, for as long as there has been violence in video games, there have been people protesting the amount of violence in video games).

Now, "Doom 4" lurches ever closer, and although no official release date has been announced, a new report says the game will be out in 2015, on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.

While the footage from QuakeCon has not yet been revealed to the public, we do know what players will find in the latest "Doom" game. The game, like previous installments of the franchise, is set on a space station in Mars, where a portal to Hell will open and flood the station with all manner of grisly, demonic creatures.

As well, PC Gamer described what much of the new QuakeCon footage looked like. Apparently, "Doom 4" is running on a brand new engine, and is has much more of a vertical aspect to it than previous "Doom" games- jetpacks and powerful jumps will be available to the player.

The aspect of "Doom 4" that seemed to draw the most praise is the inclusion of finishing moves- normally associated with fighting games and not first-person shooters. According to PC Gamer, the player can perform all kinds of grisly kills on demonic enemies- but the enemies can also do the same to the player.

Meanwhile, Pete Hines of Bethesda recently spoke to MCV about the upcoming game:

"We are going to have to prove that this is something that's going to be fun and different that you need to pay attention to. That has to be our default position, we can't be: 'It's Doom, of course you're going to play it'. But that just makes us work harder."
