The team at Yahoo Inc apologized to its users publicly today, after its Web services, particularly its Yahoo Mail, was inaccessible for up to two days. The wait for a fix might have been awhile as Yahoo was still reeling from its shuttering of its Yahoo Small Business services, which also had deactivated websites of small enterprises, as reported by TechCrunch earlier.

Jeffrey Bonfort, the senior vice president of communication products of the company, posted a short message on Tumblr on Monday night, which read, "We are very sorry for recent difficulties with Yahoo Mail. "The issue has been harder to fix than we originally expected. We have dozens of people working around the clock to bring it to a resolution."

Yahoo claimed that its email service is back on for most users via Web browsers and on mobile phone software like iOS, Android and Windows 8, The Verge noted. The company said that it is still working on restoring its IMAP access, which is utilized to gain mobile access to inboxes via an email app. The Verge also said in its report that despite the lucky few who are able to access their email, emails that were sent between November 25 to December could have been lost. Yahoo added that they are still working on restoring their Web services to fully functioning, and will let their users know via its status page.

Even Marissa Mayer endorsed the announcement. Today, a tweet coming from her official account read, "Yahoo Mail restored."A link was attached to a Tumblr blog entry, which contains the link to the company's announcement from its Help page.

Yahoo Mail, according to comScore, has around 289 million users globally per month, and comes only second to more popular Gmail at 304 million. However, Yahoo might be seeing a decline in its user base as users said the tech giant had not been very forthcoming regarding the outage as oppose to Gmail's regular updates when it too, experienced a slowdown in September.

Regular Yahoo email user Dan Buckley told The Huffington Post, "I last received email on the 9th. It is my primary account and not having access really impacts me personally." As he works in the financial regulatory industry in Texas, he told the UK news site that he is mulling over a decision to switch to Gmail.
