David Pogue, a technology writer for the New York Times, had announced his resignation on his blog today. Pogue would be leaving the Post after thirteen years of service with a new job at Yahoo Inc's new consumer tech venture.

Pogue provided vague details about Yahoo's new venture. He said, "Actually, "site" doesn't even cover it. I'll be writing columns and blog posts each week, of course, and making my goofy videos. But my team and I have much bigger plans, too, for all kinds of online and real-world creations."

Yahoo chief executive Marissa Mayer wrote about Pogue's new role in a separate blog post. She said, "Yahoo is in a unique position to bring to life great editorial about the technology consumers are using every day. David is tremendously talented, has a great sense of humor, and is gifted at explaining technology. He also just happens to be one of the nicest and most positive people I've met. He has always been one of my favorite journalists, and I can't think of a better person to make technology more accessible and helpful for the hundreds of millions of people who come to Yahoo every day."

Although date of the launch had not been made clear, Pogue was expected to start working at Yahoo in the next few weeks.

Until Facebook took the top spot, Yahoo had the largest market share in online display advertising in the world at 17%. Since then, Mayer had led the company in a series of strategic acquisitions including a USD1.1 billion acquisition of microblogging platform Tumblr. In September, Yahoo's stock price had doubled since Mayer was appointed 14 months ago.
