Fewer consumers has plans to add tech products in their Black Friday weekend shopping lists as compared to the past years, the New York Post said in a report. The Post, citing data released by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), said  only 31% of shoppers that were polled plan to buy consumer electronics products this weekend. According to CEA, its latest figure is significantly down based on the Thanksgiving weekend shopping patterns in the past five years. The data is based on telephone interviews with 1,002 adults.

Last year, 49% of people surveyed by CEA said they purchased technology products during Thanksgiving weekend, which was down from 52% in 2011 and 57% in 2010, the report said. 54% of consumers surveyed in 2009 said they bought technology products during the Black Friday weekend. This marked the first year that demand for gadgets surpassed toys during that shopping period, The Post said.

CEA chief economist and senior research director Shawn DuBravac said tech has remained in second-place slot for the most sought-after products in Black Friday ever since. DuBravac added that the indications of lower demand for gadgets this year is not a cause of concern. DuBravac said the category was poised to retain its status as the second-most coveted Black Friday item next to clothing.
