Russian airline Aeroflot ruled out purchasing or aiding troubled Italian airline Alitalia. This was according to a report published by Reuters today.

A representative of the state-controlled Russian company told Reuters: "Aeroflot does not plan to buy Alitalia, nor will it participate in any way in its financing."

Alitalia is presently seeking a new capital infusion to keep its aircrafts flying. One of the company's top shareholders, Air France-KLM, rejected a plea from Alitalia for cash aid. Air France-KLM said having a business plan would not be enough for the ailing airline. The French flag carrier also said here should be a write-off of Alitalia's huge debts, the report said.

Alitalia was privatized in 2008. However, the company has been unprofitable for over ten years. At present, the airline is stuck in a long-standing conflict with Air France-KLM over business decisions. The two companies have not finalized the future of their partnership, the report explained.

Italian officials have repeatedly named Aeroflot as one of Alitalia's potential backers. Unfortunately, the Russian airline confirmed it would not be aiding the Italian company, Reuters reported.
