After receiving accusations that it violated US labor rules, Chinese carmaker BYD Co Lt said it would hire more local employees at its California plant.

According to a statement on Monday, the Warren Buffet-backed electric bus factory said it will not remove any of its American employees. For the meantime, it sent some of its Chinese engineers to orient its Los Angeles workers about work processes. BYD also added that it will hire more local workers as the production of electric buses goes along. It presently has 40 local workers at the said plant.

In a recent report by the New York Times, the Chinese carmaker was investigated by California authorities. It was fined USD100,000 after Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy criticized it for violating labor rules by hiring only Chinese employees.

In its statement last week, BYD denied the charges made by the advocacy group, asserting that they are treating their employees fairly. The company even provided details about the condition of some of its workers at the site.
