A report from UK newspaper The Telegraph revealed hidden features of Android smartphones. One of these was Google Maps availability in its smartphones even without wifi or data. This was because Google Maps was also available for use offline. Android's operating software had also allow users to create shortcuts of their commonly-called contacts to be placed on the screen.

Another Android phone feature was the emergency contact data info useful when the phone would be lost. All an Android phone owner would need to do was to place personal contact data like names and numbers on the password protected lock screen. Anyone who would be able to find the lost smartphone would know how and where to contact its owner.

Android also has a screenshot capture. By swiping the little finger slowly across the screen until the shutter clicks, an Android phone allows an image to be saved in the unit's gallery.

Google developed Android, a Linux-based operating system, for mobile phones. According to About.com, Google's Android is an open-source software, meaning the platform would be given free to companies who wish to use it.

Even if it does not earn money from Android, Google still commanded a healthy market share for mobile advertising. Citing a report from research firm eMarketer, the Business Insider said Google had a 53% market share in mobile ad dollars revenue. In terms of total digital ad revenues, which included non-mobile ads, eMarketer revealed that Google holds USD 39 billion from the USD 118 billion spent globally this year.
