According to Australia-based online media and marketing site Mumbrella, Twitter had confirmed the official appointment of Karen Stocks as its country manager for Australia. The appointment came in shortly after its announcement of the establishment of the online social networking service's Australian office.

Before joining Twitter, Stocks was the managing director for Google Asia Pacific's mobile and social solutions. As managing director, she has logged experience in commercialization and sales strategy of Google products within Asia Pacific.

Twitter Vice President of Emerging Markets for Asia Pacific and Latin America Shaliesh Rao said, "Karen has been hired to run our business in Australia. She brings a wealth of relevant experience to Twitter. Karen, in her time at Google, has had exposure to mobile business, thought a lot about the social business and has worked a lot with the YouTube and online sales business in Australia."

Twitter also said the company would continue to hire more staff to fill in roles in its sales and partnership teams. The opening of an Australian unit showed a strong sign that the online social networking service was confident in the Australian market.
